Wonders Pty Ltd recommends, sells and installs only Toshiba, Carrier and Brivis ducted refrigerated systems. These systems are generally reverse cycle but 'cooling only' models are available. Installation is usually through the ceiling however under floor installation is an option. Because capacity output generally is fixed with these systems, zoning of areas within the home generally can only be achieved in one zone at a time. However, with a larger output system, whole home cooling can be achieved. Ducted refrigerated systems up to 16 kW require single phase power which is standard in all homes in Victoria. For homes greater than 14 squares requiring whole home ducted refrigerated air conditioning, 3 phase power is necessary and consequently the electrical supply will need to be upgraded. Older homes sometimes need to have the supply cable from the street to the home upgraded prior to installation for single phase systems.
There are two types of ducted refrigerated systems available; Standard Fixed Systems and Inverter Systems.
Standard Fixed Speed Systems - with this system, the outdoor unit works at a constant speed until the desired temperature is achieved, then switches off and back on again as required.
Inverter Systems - an Inverter system has a start up rate that is slower (than a Standard Fixed System) and this rate varies as the desired temperature is approached. As a consequence this type of system is more efficient because less power is required for its operation.

We only use silver sleeve fire rated ducting which is carefully sourced from 2 suppliers. There are a few differences in duct types and generally the industry will use either a wire cored duct with either a silver foil or plastic outer sleeve over the insulation. Silver sleeve is more expensive and longer lasting than plastic which perishes more quickly. In amongst the main different suppliers there are various different qualities of both types.
